Star Wars X-Wing: Painting the De-Cloak effect on your Ships

First paint the area of the ship that you want to be cloaked a flat black. Make sure you paint both sides of the solar panels, engines, fuselage or whatever else you are painting.

Paint a line of blue near the edge of the black area. Try to make the line as thin as possible. Only load the very tip of your paint brush. DO NOT dip your brush head all the way into the paint up to the metal part. It WILL ruin your brush.

Paint a lighter shade of blue over parts of the previous darker blue line but do not cover up the complete line, maybe 2/3 of the line.

Start with a sorta straight line and build off of it.

Build up lighter colors of blue and finally highlight with white. You should cover gradually less and less space on the line. You can make jagged off shoots to represent the crackling lightning effect of the de-cloak.

Lightly touch your brush in random spots of the cloaked portion to represent the stars in the cloaking field.

And you are done. You can seal it if you want with a clear dull coat sealer. This will prevent flaking and damage to your paint-job.
